C5 GORE-TEX SHAKEDRY™ 1985 Veste thermique

I have a ShakeDry shell that has served me very well, and is still going strong. I have been looking for a deal on a lined version, and of course, it finally happened. I do wish they weren't going away for whatever reason, the jackets are ridiculously good. You stay dry from the elements, they cover your butt so you don't get splatter in places you don't want splatter, and they are super packable. That is not something I used to care about, but when you get a jacket as good as these, you find yourself riding longer in bad weather, and often times rain stops (or starts), over the course of your ride. You can shove these in a pocket and you're good to go. Seriously great pieces of kit. I even wear a backpack on commute days and they are still solid. Absolutely zero issues. Eat Corn Flakes for a couple weeks to save up or something, it's worth it. 5' 11", 152 pounds or so, built like a skinny cyclist, I'm a medium in everything, and mediums fit me as I'd expect. I do appreciate that the arms are cut long enough to not ride up, often the sleeves are too short and you end up with a no-man's land area showing.

I saw that they were discontinuing the Shakedry product and had read nothing but rave reviews. Gorewear was having a blow-out sale over the Holidays and I had to purchase it or forever regret it. It is very warm and durable. Completely blocks the wind. Great for cold or cold and rainy days. Super well made. Very satisfied.

I have riden in 12F and rainy 50F temps. Comfortable in both.

Many people know the Shakedry series for its superior water proof material which makes for an amazing breathable rain jacket or even windbreaker, but the insulated version takes all the tech from the regular C5 Shakedry and adds some pretty warm insulation making for the best winter jacket on the market. Now, warmth is somewhat subjective but for me this jacket can be worn from 50F (max) with just a base layer to down to 25F with thermal layering. The issues with most winter jackets is that they either let too much cold in or they are not warm enough, thus most people need to resort to heavy layering which becomes restrictive. I can contest that with this jacket and with Gore's thermo base layer windstopper turtleneck was very comfortable at 40F-47F if not at times too hot where I had to unzip a bit, but with the C5 Shakedry having two way zippers this wasn't a big deal. I am 5'5" 140lbs and I took an XS and I would say it fits extremely well where it was not skin tight but not baggy either and there is enough room to layer. The wrist gaskets are very soft, stretchy, and do prevent air from escaping and water from getting in. The jacket has some nice reflective bits but you are limited to just black unless you get the high Viz version which just adds strips of neon. You only get one small back pocket which maybe fits a small wallet or some keys and gels. Unlike the regular C5 Shakedry the insulated version is not packable to the point you can throw it in your back jersey pocket, granted if it's cold enough to wear the insulated version you probably will never be taking it off period. For me this jacket eliminates the need for a winter gilet, thermal jersey, thermal soft jacket, while maybe wearing either a windbreaker or rain jacket since again you essentially can either wear this with a normal base layer, long sleeve base layer, or with a thermal base layer and be pretty toasty.
