R7 GORE-TEX SHAKEDRY™ Trail Giacca con cappuccio

Been trying a bunch of different Gore-tex running jackets but the majority are really thick and get super warm quickly. Not this one though, reason why I’m super happy with it. Size up to be able to layer up.

I’m 6’1, 170lb and a large fits great as I intend to use it to layer underneath. Performs as advertised - sheds water with no dwr and breaths amazing. Large is 6.5oz. I’m still testing the durability while hiking and wearing a backpack for multi day trips. That is the only thing in question. It also gets a star knocked off because the hood doesn’t have any adjustability to keep it loose in warmer temps. When I wear a hat hiking the hood is just a little too snug. The construction of the stretchy materials in the cuffs and hood is really nice. A solid jacket at a good price compared to other high performing 2.5 layer waterproof jackets. I’m saying it runs a tad bit small since it is meant for biking or running so it fits tight. I usually wear a medium and got this in a large and it’s perfect. I do miss the option of the more durable and feature rich R5 jacket that Andrew Skurka did a extensive review on. I would have gotten that bc it is more durable, meant for hiking with a pack, and has hand pockets.

Konnte sie zuletzt zumindest bei einer Stunde Regen testen. Komplett dicht ! Kapuze einstellbar, Brusttasche könnte minimal größer sein, aber auch ein großes Smartphone passt gerade so rein.

First test on 500km bike trip around Ireland. I know not designed specifically for cyclist but I wanted the hardier version of the jacket and the R7 trail suited and works great on the bike. Weather on off raining throughout with some very heavy downpours. Jacket performed excellently. First rain jacket I have owned that is actually fully waterproof. Packs down well, I had in side pocket of cargo bib shorts and could quickly access when the rain started. Hood fits really well under helmet with small peak helping keep water off the face. Dual zip is great when you start heating up a bit can be opened to let the air circulate. For light drizzle I tended not to have hood up so I just folded it back in under the back of the neckline so it wasn’t dragging on fast descents so this worked well too. It is expensive but if you plan on using regularly is well worth the investment. May also become a collectors item shortly as stock discontinues!

Great jacket, did a 50mile ultra snow rain wind mud and by the end of it i was bone dry! super comfy too!
