HEARING THE NEEDS OF MORE FITNESS-ORIENTED OUTDOOR ENTHUSIASTS WE HAVE DEVELOPED PERFORMANCE APPAREL SOLUTIONS SPECIFICALLY FOR FAST HIKING.
Our new collection is aimed at fitness oriented hikers who enjoy nature and their time outdoors, while also looking to challenge themselves and insisting on the best equipment. These products utilise the latest GORE-TEX and GORE WINDSTOPPER technologies to be super light, ultra packable and provide ultimate weather protection. When combined with GORE wear's extensive range of baselayers, socks, gloves and headgear you are fully equipped for a day on the trails.
"With this collection we are venturing into new terrain while remaining true to the primary goals of our products and brand: to develop innovative, uncompromising products with the help of the newes GORE technologies so as to be able to offer outdoor enthusiasts the highest possible level of comfort and protection." says product manager Thomas Weiss
He has run 17,000 km through North and South America, ridden on camels through Mongolia, and in May 2018 spent 6 days competing in the “Cape Wrath Ultra Race” in the north of Scotland – and ended up coming in third overall. GORE® Wear athlete Jamie Ramsay is as versatile as the clothes he wears: our first “fast hiking” collection.
Before you head off into the mountains make sure you know where you are going. Carry a mobile phone (Land Rover Explore), with a spare battery, with Viewranger installed and all the maps for the region. It is also a good idea to have a hard copy of a map if you are really remote.
Make sure your clothes are quick dry and compact and make use of the layering system.
If you are fast hiking for a full day then keeping your energy levels high is important. I prefer to eat “real food” like bagels with peanut butter as it avoids sugar highs and lows of gels. Its best to eat little and often to sustain your energy levels and enable you to keep moving.

If you are heading out into the wilderness then be sensible and safe. If you see a trail that you think looks dangerous then find an easier option. There are no prizes for taking unnecessary risks. I would also carry a very simple first aid kit that includes blister treatment, bandage, survival bag and painkillers
More often than not we will take more equipment than we need. It makes sense to invest in the best kit that is lightweight and compact. I find a 30l backpack is more than enough for a multiday trip including camping, cooking and food.
One of the main motivations for fast hiking is to be surrounded by natures beauty. As outdoor enthusiasts, it is our responsibility to make sure the places we visit are left as we found them for those who follow. Think twice before starting campfires and make sure you take all your litter with you.
For fast hiking I would recommend something small and waterproof like a Go Pro Hero.
No matter where you live it if easy to do small things to train before you get there: Take the stairs not the lift, strengthen your ankles with a balance board, get used to the weight of your pack.
I normally wear a pair of swimming trucks under my running or hiking kit and carry a small towel in my bag. There is nothing more exhilarating than diving into fresh water when you have worked up a sweat on the trails.
The GORE® H5 GORE-TEX ACTIVE HOODED JACKET made with GORE-TEX Active Shell is lightweight, incredibly breathable and waterproof. The pockets are easy to reach when wearing a backpack and the seamless shoulder construction has been crafted for comfort. A hemline at the waist and seamless side sections allow for greater freedom of movement.
Our distinctive H5 GORE® WINDSTOPPER® HYBRID TROUSERS combine elastic GORE® WINDSTOPPER® with a waterproof fabric on the thighs – exactly where those water droplets roll off your jacket. A grip band around the inside of the waist ensures that the trousers sit well, ventilation slits on the side of the thighs help manage changes in weather.
