Hearing the needs of fitness-oriented outdoor enthusiasts we have developed performance apparel solutions specifically for fast hiking. Light and Fast Hiking is a tough activity to dress for. It happens in the outdoors: away from the comforts of home or the easy access to shelter and warmth.
Our collection is aimed at fitness oriented hikers who enjoy nature and their time outdoors, while also looking to challenge themselves and insisting on the best equipment. These products utilise the latest GORE-TEX product technologies to be super light, ultra packable and provide ultimate weather protection. When combined with GORE Wear's extensive range of base layers, socks, gloves and headgear you are fully equipped for a day on the trails.
"With this collection we are venturing into a different terrain while remaining true to the primary goals of our products and brand: to develop innovative, uncompromising products with the help of the newest GORE technologies so as to be able to offer outdoor enthusiasts the highest possible level of comfort and protection." says product manager Thomas Weiss
“The new GORE Fast Hiking range does exactly what you want from technical outdoor clothing – it performs. It is lightweight, waterproof and windproof in all the right places. On my current 40 day wilderness trek I have the H5 GORE® WINDSTOPPER® Hybrid Pants, the R5 Zip Shirt and the H5 GORE-TEX SHAKEDRY™ Hooded Jacket. With this combination you can stay dry, warm and motivated.
I hate to admit it but I love when my hiking partner says "I am jealous of your kit" every time I put on the H5 GORE-TEX SHAKEDRY™ Hooded Jacket.” Jamie Ramsay Endurance Adventurer & GORE® Wear Ambassador
“What the GORE hiking range brings me is confidence. I know that if I am wearing my GORE kit then I am going to push myself into harsher environments, and rely on them to keep my in peak performance no matter where I am or what the weather is.
When you are doing multi-day adventures / hikes then weight and packability is paramount. These criteria are in the GORE Wear clothing DNA and have all been transferred to the new Fast Hiking collection.”

Before you head off into the mountains make sure you know where you are going. Carry a mobile phone (Land Rover Explore), with a spare battery, with Viewranger installed and all the maps for the region. It is also a good idea to have a hard copy of a map if you are really remote.
Make sure your clothes are quick dry and compact and make use of the layering system.
If you are fast hiking for a full day then keeping your energy levels high is important. I prefer to eat “real food” like bagels with peanut butter as it avoids sugar highs and lows of gels. Its best to eat little and often to sustain your energy levels and enable you to keep moving.

If you are heading out into the wilderness then be sensible and safe. If you see a trail that you think looks dangerous then find an easier option. There are no prizes for taking unnecessary risks. I would also carry a very simple first aid kit that includes blister treatment, bandage, survival bag and painkillers
More often than not we will take more equipment than we need. It makes sense to invest in the best kit that is lightweight and compact. I find a 30l backpack is more than enough for a multiday trip including camping, cooking and food.
One of the main motivations for fast hiking is to be surrounded by natures beauty. As outdoor enthusiasts, it is our responsibility to make sure the places we visit are left as we found them for those who follow. Think twice before starting campfires and make sure you take all your litter with you.
For fast hiking I would recommend something small and waterproof like a Go Pro Hero.
No matter where you live it if easy to do small things to train before you get there: Take the stairs not the lift, strengthen your ankles with a balance board, get used to the weight of your pack.
I normally wear a pair of swimming trucks under my running or hiking kit and carry a small towel in my bag. There is nothing more exhilarating than diving into fresh water when you have worked up a sweat on the trails.
