GORE® WINDSTOPPER®

The GORE ® WINDSTOPPER® membrane is an ultra thin protective layer which is laminated to a lightweight textile layer, making it totally windproof. It is made of the versatile polymer PTFE (polytetrafluorethylene) which is expanded to create a microporous structure. These micropores are 900 times larger than water vapor molecules, allowing perspiration to pass through unhindered.

The totally windproof, yet extremely breathable membrane blocks the wind and allows vapor to escape. This combination of protection and breathability minimizes the wind’s chilling effect while reducing the risk of overheating when you are active. A durable outer fabric treatment provides you additional protection of water repellency.

Rated 5 out of 5 by JK from Excellent fit and function I am 175cm / 65kgs and bought the medium. These have a good amount of stretch to them and are extremely lightweight. When I put them on they seem to disappear meaning there is no snagging on the seat, no resistance when pedaling ... I used to race XC and so I wore lycra bib shorts all the time. Now I want something that lets me pedal without feeling resistance and are not too baggy/heavy. These are it. The Windstopper material also blocks wind and spray very nicely. They are a slim fit so if you are into über baggy these are not for you. These would actually be a nice addition for road cycling when the road is wet. You will not be able to use these with knee protection. Since they are windstopper they are also too warm for the summer months. There is only one small pocket on the back of the shorts, which I think is great as I normally put my stuff in the jersey pockets or wear a pack. No need for pockets on shorts when you legs are moving all the time...Highly recommended!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Porcupine66 from Light and strong! i recently partook in Transpyr a 7 day mtb stage race across the pyrenees in Spain representing Evans cycles. i kept these shorts in my bag as a get out of jail card and i must say you don't notice the weight at all! i used them at the top of mountain passes when the the weather came in and they really do block out the wind well. the waist band they use is a stretchy elastic which is great as it means you can whip them on and off over you shoes without a hitch within seconds ideal in changeable weather conditions. i was most impressed with how strong they are. i fell off the bike a few times and was sure i must have damaged them on a bed of rocks but they looked brand new still! not sure how gore do it. they are also surprisingly water resistant due to the wind-stopper membrane being very similar to gore tex. these will be in the bag for manny years to come!
