CONCURVE Thermo Hybrid vs WINDSTOPPER® Insulated Jacket

Winter running is all about balance - staying warm enough to enjoy the miles, without overheating or piling on bulky layers. That’s where the GOREWEAR CONCURVE range comes in.

The Thermo Hybrid and WINDSTOPPER® Insulated jackets are both built for cooler-weather running, but they’re designed for different conditions and layering strategies. The question is: which one should you choose and how do you wear it best?

Let’s break down the technology and layering options for each jacket so you can head out fully prepared, whatever the forecast.

CONCURVE Thermo Hybrid Layers Explained

These high-performance jackets combine protective woven panels with stretchy thermal knit fabric for the perfect balance of warmth and freedom.

  • Wind-resistant, water-repellent woven zones across the core and upper arms shield you from the elements without adding bulk.

  • Breathable, cozy and stretchy thermal knit fabric helps regulate temperature and maintain full range of motion.

CONCURVE WINDSTOPPER® Insulated Layers Explained

The technology is made up of three, hard-working layers. The inside layer that lies closest to the skin is made from WINDSTOPPER® membrane. This is followed by a PrimaLoft® Active Evolve insulation mid layer. The external layer is made from recycled woven with DWR for water protection.

  • WINDSTOPPER® Technology by GORE-TEX LABS provides complete wind protection while staying reliably breathable. The new ultra-thin ePE membrane is water resistant, PFC-free and 100% windproof.

  • PrimaLoft® Active Evolve insulation provides the warmth of down without the bulk, and crucially, it keeps insulating even when wet. Woven fibres trap air and provide protection when you need it, while allowing heat and moisture to escape when your body temperature rises.

  • A highly air-permeable, lightweight recycled woven face fabric is treated with a DWR for light rain resistance.

When you’re standing still or running slow, the insulation does its job to lock in warmth and less air permeates the face fabric. When you speed up, more cold air permeates the face fabric and mixes with the warm air trapped in the PrimaLoft insulation, creating a cooling effect. The result? Reliable protection from wind and cold, without the risk of overheating - adaptive technology that keeps your temperature just right from warm-up to cool-down.

How to layer

This option makes for a great outer layer on a chilly day or a mid layer on a colder day. The membrane-free design means you can wear it on its own in cool weather, or with a shell when running on those wet winter days

Thanks to the warmth of this insulated jacket, you don’t want to be layering up underneath - especially if you plan to run fast. Just a base layer underneath is usually enough for cold runs.
