GORE® WINDSTOPPER®

The GORE ® WINDSTOPPER® membrane is an ultra thin protective layer which is laminated to a lightweight textile layer, making it totally windproof. It is made of the versatile polymer PTFE (polytetrafluorethylene) which is expanded to create a microporous structure. These micropores are 900 times larger than water vapor molecules, allowing perspiration to pass through unhindered.

The totally windproof, yet extremely breathable membrane blocks the wind and allows vapor to escape. This combination of protection and breathability minimizes the wind’s chilling effect while reducing the risk of overheating when you are active. A durable outer fabric treatment provides you additional protection of water repellency.

Product Reviews
GORE® M GORE® WINDSTOPPER® Balaclava is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very technical balaclava This is the 3rd balaclava I've tried and the most unique. I've ridden with it on couple of rides now from 18 degrees to 35 degrees and as I mention in the title of review this is a very technically sound product. It does fit a little tight on my 23inch head but feels fine once I get going. The neck protection is great and the breathing holes for nose and mouth are exceptional. I have given up riding with glasses while wearing a balaclava so can't speak to fogging aspect. It does act just like soft shell jacket. When I've ridden with it in colder temperatures it does fine blocking wind and my face feels cool but not cold unless I'm really exerting myself (hills) and then it feels very comfortable temperature-wise but never too warm. I think it could hold it's own on colder days but personally I like to wear a merino wool cap on top. On not as cold days it just stays a comfortable temperature and gets just a little warm on hills and then regulates once you get back to normal tempo/exertion.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good balaclava, though a bit loose It is a very good balaclava, protected me on city commuting in under 0ºC temperatures. I do have a bit smaller head, so I found it a bit oversize, and would have liked a tighter fit. Also on temperatures this low, a cap is recommended on top balaclava.
